i also had a lot of spam in comments but since i set it all to user only i dont have any spam, also no spam users were created even my registration doesnt require activation

Well, so far since they can't see the capcha on my site it makes it hard for scammers to join..so far I have members join by invite only..but will change once I get the site back to normal...

Ah, I never thought about that but is there no way to make an admin accept them joining the website? That way the admin may have to control everyone and it's alot of work but it would keep it free from spammers right?

as you say argu, have the same problem as the guy and installed that addon that demands them to write everything before they can register are the best solution that i have meet so far

Blocking IPs wouldnt work for the whole time... if they connect new via the internet, they have allready a new IP.. so its no powerful solution.

There's alot of ways to prevent them from spamming but I just delete the spam posts and block their IP's.. Same job as installing hundreds of addons and you know that the spam is deleted = )

i should recommend the user activasion addon, have problems with spam bots 2 and they are getting trough the registration 2 and are using this at the moment 2 stop them

In my opinion the best antispam is to set most of the comments, post, etc. functions only to registered users and then use the registration add-on (last link)
